Looking over Ellesborough

Walking Diary: As I reach the top of Coombe Hill I am treated to huge vistas across Aylesbury Vale and Wendover. I look over the village of Ellesborough and see the dominating Beacon Hill, with its grassy mound and lone tree, iconic amongst the Chiltern Hills. It is also the site of Cymbeline's Mount, referred to in the Shakespeare play Cymbeline. It is also the site of a medieval motte and bailey castle. After admiring the huge monument, dedicated to local men killed in the Boer War, I head downhill towards the attractive market town of Wendover. From Wendover to Tring itís a pleasant and relatively straight walk through woodland. Tring Park (part of the Rothschild Estate) is stunning with huge avenues of Beech, Lime and Yew. I end my walk at Widdington. .
