The Pudding

The Pudding

Silbury Hill is the largest man-made mound in Europe.

This painting is taken from a photo at the foot of the West Kennet Long Barrow, looking down at Silbury Hill near Avebury in Wiltshire.

After recent excavations by English Heritage they concluded that Silbury Hill is not a burial mound.

My personal opinion is that it was built as a fertility symbol which represents the female womb and promoted prosperous harvests in the local community.

The title of this painting stems from a winter visit to Avebury when I was hungry and saw the resemblance between Silbury Hill and a gigantic Christmas pudding.
