Hardy's View

This is one of the views from the Hardy Monument which is situated on Black Down Hill looking over the English Channel in Dorset. It was erected in 1884 as a memorial to Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar. From the top of the monument at a height of 850 feet above sea level it is possible to see the Isle of White on a clear day. The area round the monument was designated a site of special scientific interest in 1994.
